Raheem Sterling could hand Arsenal a major transfer boost as the Manchester City winger is reportedly open to making the move to London this summer.
The 22-year-old grew up in the capital and still has family there,
though he has spent much of his senior footballing career in the north
of England with Liverpool and then City.
Reports earlier today claimed that Sterling has been offered to
Arsenal as part of a surprise swap deal for Alexis Sanchez, who has been
linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium for much of the summer.
While Arsenal have insisted the Chilean forward is not for sale, it
remains to be seen if they could be persuaded to cash in on the contract
rebel now with the offer of a big name like Sterling included in the
deal.
According to the Guardian,
City are offering £20million on top of Sterling, who is bemused by
City’s decision to offer him to the Gunners, but not against the move
due to his London roots.
Sterling has shone in his two seasons at City, but faces increased
competition for places after attacking signings such as Leroy Sane and
Bernardo Silva brought in by Pep Guardiola over the last two summers.
The potential arrival of Sanchez would also prove a major stumbling
block in terms of starting regularly, which could end up hindering his
World Cup chances with England next summer.
